Expressing Love

Studies have clearly shown that people who can experience and express their love and concern live longer, healthier lives. Being able to express our feelings of love doesn't just cause us to feel better - the other person gains a sense of wellbeing as well.

What more powerful attention could you get than to have someone you care about say I love you?

What greater impact could you have on your world than to give your love freely, without reservation, without fear? Unfortunately, few of us dare to open up enough to give or receive love.

What keeps us from expressing love? We fear rejection, fear intimacy, or fear vulnerability.

Two Tips for Expressing Love

  • Develop knowledge of what your spouse, child, etc, truly appreciates. You and your spouse each have essential needs. Ask what your spouse most enjoys receiving from you , and don't be surprised with what you find out.
  • Explore various "love languages" or "modes of expression." For example, is it hearing verbal endorsements, receiving presents, showing affection, having alone time, or acts of consideration?
